About Coyotes

About Coyotes

Coyotes are wild canines native to North America and are closely related to wolves and domestic dogs. Known for their intelligence and adaptability, coyotes inhabit an enormous range extending from remote wilderness and open grasslands to deserts, forests, mountains, and areas near human communities.

Coyotes are opportunistic feeders with highly varied diets. Depending on their habitat and the season, they may eat rodents, rabbits, insects, birds, reptiles, fruit, and other available foods. They can hunt alone, in pairs, or sometimes cooperatively when pursuing larger prey.

Coyotes are also famous for their vocalizations. Howls, yips, barks, and other calls allow family members to communicate across considerable distances and can make a small number of coyotes sound like a much larger group. Their intelligence, expressive behavior, adaptability, and striking appearance make coyotes fascinating subjects for North American wildlife photography.
